Monday Open Discussion Group

Monday, June 18, 7:00pm, Fellowship Hall

Separation of Church and State

This meeting will feature a 30-minute DVD video lecture on some of the legal issues involving the so-called “Establishment Clause” in the First Amendment to the U. S. Constitution. The speaker is Edward Tabash, chair of the legal committee of “Americans United for Separation of Church and State,” and a prominent civil rights activist and attorney.  In his presentation, Mr. Tabash outlines some of the history relating to the First Amendment, including the documented intentions of the authors, and then offers some interesting insights into recent controversies on church versus state issues. The topic has both local and national ramifications and should be of particular interest to UUs. A question and discussion period will follow the talk.  No sign-ups are required, and the public is invited.
